Grief & Loss – When the World Changes Irreversibly

What is the process of grief?
The loss of a loved one is one of the deepest and most shattering experiences in human life. It does not only affect the emotions — it changes the sense of time, security, identity and meaning. Grief is not a linear state and there is no 'right' way or timeframe for experiencing it.
In the process of grief, a person may pass through various states:
profound sadness and emptiness
anger, guilt or confusion
a sense of unreality or detachment
fear of the future and loneliness
These experiences are the mind's natural response to loss and are not a sign of weakness or 'failing to cope'.
How does therapy support the experience of loss?
Psychotherapeutic work with grief aims to create a safe and protected space in which pain can be experienced and expressed, without pressure for a 'quick recovery'.
In therapy:
we respect the individual rhythm and stages of grief
we work with feelings of guilt, anger, helplessness and emptiness
we support the process of making sense of the loss and its consequences
we create conditions for gradual calm and stabilisation
we support adaptation to the new reality
The goal is not to 'forget' the person who has gone, but to find a way for them to be integrated into the inner world, without pain dominating daily life.
Grief as a path, not an illness
People often fear that if they immerse themselves in grief, it will overwhelm them. In reality, when pain is acknowledged and shared, it gradually becomes more bearable.
Therapy helps grief to be experienced as a process — a path along which a person can travel with accompanying support, rather than remaining alone in their suffering.
